W.B. Ray High School promotes student achievement through the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TAKE)—the basis for the curriculum in Corpus Christi Independent School District. CCISD teachers follow this comprehensive curriculum and teach the stated TEKS objectives, using the District-developed Scope and Sequence for all core subjects in each six week grading period.

 

Accreditation, National Recognition and State Recognition

W.B. Ray High School is accredited by the Texas Education Agency and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The International Baccalaureate Organization accredited W.B. Ray fo the Diploma Programme in March 2011 and the Middle years Programme in August 2011. We also provide a comprehensive curriculum which includes instruction in regular, advanced placement, AVID and the IB Programmes.

Dual Credit Program

The Corpus Christi Independent School District and Del Mar College offer qualified students the opportunity to earn high school and college credit concurrently in a variety of subjects. Some courses are offerred at the high school campus while others are available at Del Mar College.

Extracurricular Activities

W.B. Ray High Schhol Texans participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. Clubs and organizations are available in academics, service, performing arts, publications, and special interests. Some examples are: Academic Decathlon, Audio/Video Production Club, Comic Readers’ Club, Debate Team, French Honor Society, Freshman Mentors, Gay Straight Alliance, Mock Trial Team, Key Club, Health and Wellness Club, Spanish Honor Soicety, R*TREC Club, and UIL Academic Competition. Competitive sports for young men and women include basketball, baseball, football, track, soccer, softball, wrestling, cross-country, swimming and ediving, golf, volleyball and tennis. Students can also compete in fine arts competitons and career and technology contests such as Skills USA.

Community

Centrally located in the Corpus Christi metropolitan area, W.B. Ray High School’s community represents diversity among all socio-economic levels. Local industry includes port/shipping, oil and refineries, farming, agribusiness, chemical plants and tourism. The city is home to the Texas State Aquarium, Corpus Christi Hooks baseball team, the USS Lexington and Museum, the Art Museum of South Texas, the Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures, the Corpus Christi Ballet Company and Ballet Academy Dance Company, Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

Advanced Placement Courses: are available in English Language and Composition, Literature and Composition, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, Calculus AB, Caclulus BC, Macroeconomics, U.S. Government, Human Geography, Psychology, World History, U.S. History, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, French Language and Culture, Drawing Portfolio, Studio Art Two-Dimensional Design and Portfolio.

IB Diploma Courses: English Literature HL, Spanish HL/SL, French HL/SL, History of the Americas and the 20 th Century World Issues HL, Biology HL/SL, Chemistry HL/SL, Physics HL/SL, Math HL (150 hours in algebra, functions and equations, circular functions trig, matrices, vectors, stats, probability, calculus), Math SL, Math Studies SL (algebra, functions and equations, circular functions, trig, matrices, vectors, states, probability, pre-calculus, calculus).
