We're so happy that you are taking a look
at what's happening in Texan Territory!
We hope you are keeping warm during this winter season! Our vertical learning community (elementary and middle school feeder team) has come together in a very unique way! Our vertical learning community of science teachers from kinder through 12th grades are coming together to plan a consistent plan for note-taking by incorporating components of the Cornell Notes and the Interactive Journaling styles. This is a skill that will enhance the students' skills in reference to College Readiness.
Our math and science teachers have also begun the process of integrating a common language for their subjects to help students make deeper connections as they learn math and science.
As you may know, this year we have implemented a 20-minute homeroom class time that we call T-Time. Virtually every adult on campus is assigned a group of homeroom students who they will get to know throughout this year and the four years that the student attends Ray. My hope is that students will feel like they have a home away from home with their T-Time families.
During T-Time, staff will contact parents/guardians whenever a child is absent. To accommodate this goal, we're asking parents to provide current and accurate contact information by emailing or calling homeroom teachers and providing phone numbers email addresses. Also during T-Time, students will have an opportunity to hear daily announcements and discuss issues of importance to them.
I would very much like to keep you informed about what's going on at Ray via my parent-group e-mail communication. If you would like to be included on the list to receive weekly updates about important events occurring at W.B. Ray High School, please email me at ceperez@ccisd.us. Upon receiving your email, I will gladly add you to my parent-group e-mail list, and you will be "in the know" within a week.
Finally, I am so proud to say that W.B. Ray has been accepted as an IB Candidate School! This puts us one step closer to our goal of hosting an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in future years. Our teachers are doing an incredible job of meeting the needs of MYP students. The faculty continues to develop their IB-MYP expertise daily.
Please make sure to stop by anytime to say hello as you pass by the principal's office or e-mail me if you have any questions throughout the year.
